So for the first blog I did I wanted to share this post as it is nearing the anniversary of when the McStay family disappeared. I read about it online three years ago when they went missing, but figured they would eventually turn up because how can a family of four just walk away and vanish in to thin air? If they left willingly, how could they leave their home, parents, siblings, pets behind along with the lives they have established? If they were kidnapped, how could no one have seen a family of four being taken unwillingly? So many things in this story just do not add up, but I believe there is someone out there that knows what happened to the McStay family.http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/26/justice/mcstay-family-disappearance/index.html?hpt=hp_c3
If I were to introduce this story into my classroom, I would do it on a unit of safety. Many children in our classrooms may not know not to get in the car with a stranger, or even look both ways before crossing the road. When I was observing at Cook Elementary last semester, they had a day where the police and firefighters came to talk to them about safety and I would introduce my lesson the week the professionals came to talk to the students.
